assignment will be graded based on the effort with which you did it and your
ability to follow directions. Your practice final grade is for your knowledge
only so that it can help guide your study efforts for the final on June 16.
On the due date of this assignment, I will be collecting your separate sheet
with corrections which will be stapled on top of the original practice test
packet to make sure you have followed directions.  To figure out your
score you will calculate the number correct over the total number of questions
(51) and multiply by 100. If you skipped any, they are wrong. If you need
help come to extra help in the morning.

The Science State test is different than Math and English - there is no sleeping in and signing in late!  The written sci8 test  happens during a school day that follows a regular schedule on Monday June 5th. REGENTS students will take a practice regents exam while science students are taking the sci8 state test

Create a team T-chart poster with colorful models
showing the types of chemical and physical weathering. Each model must be accompanied
by a description of that mode of weathering and an example of where it would be
found in nature. Include team member names, table number and class on top of
poster.

Take a picture of some weathering you see and post it on the stream along with a description telling if it is physical or chemical, the type of physical or chemical weathering and an explanation of how that happens. Step 8 should be glued into your notebook. Only glue the center of the octagon down in the center of your notebook page. The flaps should fold up and have the moon phase picture on the front and the description on the back. The sun should be glued on the left side. Can you see the man in the moon? Tell someone at home why the moon always shows us the same FACE.  If you get a picture of it (NO GOOGLE IMAGES- I will check!) and post it on the stream before 8:00 AM tomorrow, you will earn 2 bonus points on your last test. Try to see it low on the Eastern horizon. Moonrise is at 8:14PM. It might take time to be visible (15°/hour).

To the Parents/Guardians of Incoming 9th Grade Students:

We have begun the scheduling process for the 2023-24 school year and school counselors are meeting with eighth grade classes to discuss course offerings at Schreiber High School.

In September 2023, all ninth grade students will be enrolled in either Biology or Biology Honors. All students will take the Living Environment New York State Regents examination in June 2023.

In order to be considered for the Biology Honors program, students must participate in a review and screening process. One of the instruments being used is a 35 minute Honors Biology Qualifying Examination using their chromebook. This exam will consist of two parts. The first part will concentrate on science content from the 6-8 grade curriculum. The second part consists of questions that test critical thinking and analytical skills. Students who wish to be considered for the high school honors biology placement must sit for this qualifying examination.

The exam will be administered at Weber Middle School on February 17th during the students’ scheduled science class.
Other components to be considered are as follows: First and second quarter grades from the five major subject areas (8th grade) and the 7th grade overall final average of all academic courses. The overall score will result in a recommendation being made regarding your child's placement. An 85 or higher will mean automatic qualification for Honors Biology. An 80 to 84 will allow parents and students to opt into the course. Any students who have a score of 79 or lower will be placed in Regents Biology. For these students to consider waiving into the course, the procedure is outlined on page 7 of the Program Planning Guide.

Past students who have been successful in the Biology Honors course have had a strong aptitude for science, read at an advanced level, and are able to write extensively. This is a demanding and rigorous course.

The qualifying exam will be administered to every 8th grade student. However, if you wish to have your child opt out of the examination and be placed directly into Regents Biology, please submit this form no later than Wednesday, February 15th at 12:00 pm. A 1 pager should have notes, color and diagrams! You are NOT writing the entire slideshow. Take brief notes! Remember active reading strategies to help you decide the KEY ideas to write down.

This is going to be a frequent assignment for the second half of the year.
I will expect you to use the slideshow BEFORE we apply the content in the classroom.

If you are clearing out your old binder, please DO NOT throw away your old work! You have a final exam so you need it! 
I recommend buying a new floppy 1.5 inch and keeping your old binder in tact. Don't forget to transfer your CER reference tool and folder. FRESH START BINDER REMINDERS:
One side of your folder should be for works in progress, the other should be for due today.  All work starting from ASTRONOMY should be holepunched in the rings of your new binder and in date order. 
Replenish your supplies in your pencil case at this time. You need EVERY DAY - calculator, highlighter, pencils, pens, colored pencils, holepunch and marble notebook

If you are choosing to rest over break, that is perfectly ok and welcomed, but do add a few minutes to the other dates to compensate for that time. Any questions, message me. This must be filled out and signed by a parent due Wednesday.

Study guide should be AT LEAST a front and back side of paper and should cover all topics in unit 2. This will be collected so make sure your name is on it!
