Dear Parents and Guardians,
Tomorrow your child will be participating in Unity Day. Unity Day is an event created by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, to come together in one giant ORANGE message of hope and support. Tomorrow, please wear and share orange to color our nation, and even the world, to visibly show that our society believes no child should ever experience bullying.
Weber students will be participating in activities throughout the day, including walking two laps around the track as a school. The first lap is in recognition of all of those that have been bullied in the past. The second lap is to recognize our power to stop bullying in the future.
We will hold No Place for Hate class meetings in small groups throughout the school year to cultivate student leadership, unite your school community, and engage students and staff in active learning. These meetings will be discussion-based and active-learning activities, where our students and staff will examine identities, reflect on biased behavior and learn new ways to challenge bias and bullying in themselves, others and society.
We encourage our students to abide by the following No Place for Hate Pledge:
- I WILL SEEK TO GAIN understanding of those who are different from myself.
- I WILL SPEAK OUT AGAINST prejudice and discrimination.
- I WILL REACH OUT to support those who are targets of hate.
- I WILL PROMOTE respect for people and help foster a prejudice-free school.
- I BELIEVE that one person can make a difference - no person can be an “innocent” bystander when it comes to opposing hate.
- I RECOGNIZE that respecting individual dignity and promoting intergroup harmony are the responsibilities of all students.
We welcome everyone to sign our No Place for Hate Pledge at https://forms.gle/wWF7pLvdezeXyNSe8.
Thank you for your partnership in this endeavor.
