Dear Weber Families,
I hope this message finds you well. I am excited to announce the launch of our upcoming March Madness Food Drive: Slam Dunk Hunger! This initiative is aimed at fostering community spirit, while making a positive impact by supporting those in need through our food donations.
Starting the week of March 18, 2024, Weber Middle School will be hosting a friendly competition between our school houses to see which homebase can collect the most donations. The house and homebase with the highest number of donations will be crowned the winner, but more importantly, we'll all be winners in the fight against hunger in our own local community. Food donations will be made to Our Lady of Fatima and Saint Peter’s.
To make the food drive even more engaging, we have themed each day of donation:
- Macaroni Monday: Donate pasta, canned pasta sauces, oil, breadcrumbs, mac and cheese, and other non-perishable Italian-inspired foods.
- Taco Tuesday: Contribute items such as canned beans, rice, taco seasoning, and other Mexican-inspired foods.
- Wake-up Wednesday: Start the day off right by donating breakfast foods such as cereal, oatmeal, bagels, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, pancake mix, syrup, and breakfast bars.
- Team Thursday: Show your house spirit by donating items/packaging that match your house color. Let's see which house can rally the most support! Some ideas include:
- Blue - Progresso soup, tuna, canned fruit, salmon, diapers/wipes
- Green - Green beans, Pampers diapers/wipes, peas
- Red - Ketchup, Campbell’s soup, Huggies diapers/wipes
- Yellow - Canned corn, mustard, diapers/wipes, canned fruit
- Favorite Food Friday: Share your favorite non-perishable food items with those in need. Some suggestions: Peanut butter, sunflower butter, almond butter, jelly, mac and cheese, nutella, cake/brownie mixes
We also encourage you to take this opportunity to discuss with your child the importance of global citizenship. By participating in this food drive, we are not only supporting our local community but also embodying the values outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate, particularly those related to global citizenship.
Your support and participation in this event are greatly appreciated. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need in Port Washington.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Beth Javeline
