Weber Students Excel at NYS Science Olympiad

On April 5, 2025, 16 students from Weber Middle School’s Science Olympiad Academic Teams attended the New York State Tournament in Syracuse, NY. The tournament gives students the opportunity to showcase their scientific knowledge, problem-solving skills, and teamwork in 23 events. Events span multiple scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, earth and space science, engineering, and physics. They can involve written tests, lab work, or pre-built devices—each testing students' ability to make decisions on the spot.

Over the course of the two-day competition, Weber competed against forty of the top teams from across New York State and finished 17th overall.

Principal Beth Javeline praised the students for their dedication and strong performance at the state tournament. She noted that competing against top teams from across New York was a significant accomplishment itself. “They represented Weber Middle School with excellence, and we’re thrilled to celebrate their success,” she said.

Coach CarrieAnn Lindstadt-Iurka praised the students for their determination and team spirit throughout the weekend.

“Our academic team members showed great camaraderie and persistence, even when events didn’t go as planned,” said Lindstadt-Iurka. “They took every part of the experience in stride and demonstrated such professionalism. We’re proud to coach a team with such positive character traits!”
