Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students

We are excited to announce that the Port Washington School District is participating in the New York State’s Universal Free Meals program. This program provides free meals to all children in the school, regardless of household income.

The program is more than just free meals; it’s an opportunity to support equity, remove barriers, and fuel student success from the cafeteria to the classroom. The program offers a variety of healthy and nutritious meals, including breakfast and lunch. Children can still choose from a wide range of options, including vegetarian and vegan meals. All meals offered to students follow USDA Guidelines for milk, fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains. A la carte items such as water and healthy snacks will still be available for purchase. Additional meals will be at the same cost as last year $2.50 for breakfast; $3.50 for lunch.

The district will be providing a complete meal to all students at no cost. There is no action required on parents/guardians for students to receive free meals.

In order to streamline reimbursements and maximize our ability to deliver the most benefits to students, we ask that parents continue to fill out and submit the Income Eligibility Form.

  • This form helps the school district to qualify for Federal and State Grants that support other instructional initiatives.
  • Additionally, eligible students may qualify to receive waivers for college applications, admissions tests like SATs and ACTs and discounted school fees.
